The Filion Eco Hotel as a pioneer bioclimatic design accommodation incorporates all those innovations aimed at ensuring conditions of thermal and visual comfort, but also saving energy for heating and cooling, utilizing solar energy and other environmental sources such as renewable energy sources, but and the natural phenomena of the climate. In other words, it is cool in summer and warm in winter by natural methods. The way to achieve this is to have a proper orientation with large windows and openings in the south as well as smaller openings in the north and west so that it does not lose energy and heats or cools according to the season using the natural energy sources as well as the use of materials with a high thermal capacity such as stone and concrete, which with the right study can store heat and offer it when the external supply stops, i.e. the sun. Also through the protection of the building from the summer sun, mainly through shading, planting and vegetation of the surrounding area but also through the appropriate construction of the shell. It is important to remove the heat that accumulates inside the building in the summer, in a natural way to the external environment with passive cooling systems and techniques such as through ventilation, sloping roofs and ventilation pipes that circulate air from cooler areas. The bioclimatic design of Filion Eco Hotel emphasizes passive technologies, with high levels of thermal insulation in the external masonry and roofs (natural algae insulators), windows with high thermal insulation specifications and energy glazing. When passive technologies are applied and implemented in a correct way, the difference in the energy balance of the building, which the active technologies have to cover, is very small. Our building uses up to 90% less energy for heating and cooling than conventional buildings.
